Chaya Aviva Katz is the founder of Maayan Academy. She recognizes that the largest challenges offer the biggest growth opportunities. Chaya Aviva loves working with kids. While helping students grow, she often finds herself growing with them. Chaya Aviva excels at connecting and cultivating a student's emotional and academic needs. Her ability to assess the big picture enables her to provide each girl with the individualized care they need.
Chaya Aviva has an undergraduate degree in Special Education from Coppin State University and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration with a Principal Licensure from Ohio State University.
Chaya Aviva has been an educator for over 25 years in the public and private sectors. Previously, Chaya Aviva served as an advanced-level Jewish Studies educator, academic program coordinator, and principal of Bnot Chaya Academy in Brooklyn, New York. Before her administrative role, Chaya Aviva taught students who struggled with behavioral challenges. During the summer months, she served as Camp Director City Leader for the Momentum Program.
Chaya Aviva currently resides with her husband and family in Jackson, New Jersey.

CLINICAL DIRECTOR
Miriam Handelsman is the Co-Founder and Clinical Director of Maayan Academy. Miriam is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in substance abuse and trauma. Her calling is assisting adolescents and young adults who struggle with addiction, trauma, and mental illness.
She brings thoughtful direction and expertise to Maayan. Previously, she served as the Director of the Women's Program at The Living Room, a center for Jewish recovering addicts. She also served as the Clinical Director of Bnot Chaya Academy in Brooklyn, New York.
Miriam maintains a private counseling practice in Jackson, New Jersey where she lives with her husband and children.
